Google Search Console (Google Webmasters)

Google Search Console (formerly Webmasters Tools) is a free Google tool that allows you to track your site's performance on Google searches. Its functionalities are:

  • Search Traffic: Identifies what people are searching for on Google that leads them to click on your site;
  • Search Appearance: Shows how Google is reading your site's structured data (titles, descriptions, etc.)
  • Google Index: Works like a library index. Google goes to your site and identifies the keywords that appear the most to position you in the results when such words are searched for;
  • Other features: Such as warnings of security issues on your site, testing tools, etc.

Frequently asked questions

What data does the Google Search Console integration bring into Kondado?
The integration extracts ultra-granularized data including site URLs, permission levels, search queries, countries, devices, pages, impressions, clicks, CTR, and position metrics. This differs from the aggregated view in the native Google Search Console interface. You can explore pre-built reports for Google Search Console to see how this data is structured.
Why is there a delay in the data from Google Search Console?
Due to API limitations imposed by Google, the data returned through the integration has a delay of at least 48 hours. This is not a Kondado limitation but a restriction from Google's Search Console API itself.
What time zone is the Google Search Console data reported in?
All data from the Google Search Console integration is reported in PT Pacific Time (UTC – 7:00/8:00 depending on daylight saving time). Keep this in mind when comparing with other data sources or scheduling reports.
Do I need to grant all permissions during authorization?
Yes. On the Google consent screen, you must check ALL permissions that are requested. Skipping any required permission will prevent the integration from functioning correctly and extracting your search performance data.
Can I send Google Search Console data to Google Data Studio?
Yes. After connecting the source, you can create pipelines to various destinations including Google Data Studio for visualization and dashboard creation, among other supported destinations.
